Bought this at a thrift store. I love it! The history of Gruen watches is interesting. I believe this to be an original Gruen, before they merged with others and developed throughout the 30's 40's and so on...but I have yet to confirm this.
The pictures aren't real clear but I would say it is a Quadratron (spelling may be off). Looks like there is no little dial with a second hand so that should date it before 1921. As I recall they brought out what was called the doctor's watch in 1921. The doctor's watch had a small dial above the number 6 that had a second hand. I have one very much like the one you picture and researched it a number of years ago.

So glad I saw this. I have a watch that appears nearly identical, except for a slight difference on the face. I also have its original composition cardboard type case and the warranty. The watch was given to my mother as a graduation gift in 1929 or 1930. It has been cleaned and runs perfectly. I want to do more research now that I have seen this.
