I've never heard of ''Stamps" for Baseball.
Can anyone tell me about these?
I have many other "things" and would truly love info on these, graded newspaper pictures, as well as paintings, First-Day Stamps, Stock certificates and sculpture type of art.
Thank yoyu,
Mike
Go to kenmorestamp.com They will know...
The stamp above was issued as test sets in 1971 and were meant to be collected in team books. The Willie Mays stamp in MT condition sells for approximately $7-$10. The stamp above is "graded" by FGS, which is not one of the more reputable companies in the collecting community. Typically, collectors looks for PSA, BGS or SCG grading with the first two being the most trusted. Grading became popular in the late 90's early 2000's and the TV shop at home networks took advantage of this to make money. This card, even if graded Gem Mint 10 by BGS or PSA would sell in the $75 range (I don't know where the $1000 price tag came from....you could buy a 1951 Mays Bowman Rc in EX condition for that.) Stamps were popular up into the 80's and again recently when Panini began making trading cards for the second time. Basically, stamps have traditionally been promotional or test issues but not very valuable. What you have is a great picture of Mays right at the end of his career when he was still with the Giants and not floundering to the end of his career with the Mets.
Thanks for the info. I'll be able to sort through the boxes with a little more knowledge now.
I'm not a big baseball fan or collector, but is there a good place to sell the cards, and cds?
Thanks again,
Mike
I will lookv at the link tonight. Thanks.
The other thing to look for is stamps that have been cut out of books...meaning someone as a kid used the adhesive to stick the stamp in the collecting book and then someone else tried peeling it off (usually results in curling) or cut it out of the book (in which case you will feel the additional paper on the stamp and it won't have the same back as an "unstuck" stamp.) These are generally worth less, although some star players will sell really well. If you have any questions regarding other cards you have, let me know. My personal collection is over 100,000 cards and I do free appraisals....or in the case of pics on the web, just general ballpark values (no pun intended). I have been appraising collections for friends for years and would be happy to give you honest feedback if you want to sell your collection. Ebay used to be the way to go but Beckett has a good website as well and offers collectors the ability to buy, sell and trade. Since I have no interest in buying your collection, I can give you an honest appraisal of what something might be worth before you list it on these sites. Often bundling cards that are similar together will get you the best bang for your buck.
CD's I would stick with Ebay unless you have something really rare and then a local shop would be your best bet to trade or sell. The real value is in records since there are more variations such as sleeve design and vinyl color. This is not my area of expertise...so anyone else on the CD's?
