I received this beautiful Vogue composition doll as a present from my mom for my golden birthday just last December. My mom, an antique doll collector, dealer and repairer, let me know that she was "an early Ginny doll" made by Vogue in the early 1940's. Upon further research, I discovered that this particular doll is a Toddles doll, the precursor to Ginny.

    She has the following:

    - painted lashes
    - painted eyes
    - a composition body
    - her original outfit (I believe)
    - her original wig, still attached firmly
    - the word "VOGUE" printed on her back

The doll is in wonderful condition and has just a little crazing on her face and body. Before giving the doll to me, my mom noticed that the joints were loose so she restrung the body. The body is now tight and much more easily posed.

I've been trying to find more information about her, like her official Vogue Toddles name, whether or not a gold Vogue tag was originally on her, and any other information you might have about this particular doll. For now, I'm calling her Mabelle.

Wonderful doll her name is Toddles no other name and she did not come with a wrist name tag only Vogue on her back and dressed in labeled Vogue clothes . They also did a boy same mold .She appears all original down to shoes . Beautiful doll ! Lucky you :-)

Thank you so much for your help, Manikin. I truly appreciate it! I'll have to try to track down some photos of the boy version because I would love to see him as well. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll come across him someday at a doll show or antique store...

All my questions have been answered so I'm marking my little mystery as solved.

They do not sell cheap :-) They came dressed in many different outfits but sell for the 150 to 400 in the condition of yours :-) Oh some did have a shiny gold Voque like sticker label on clothes not a wrist tag all it says is Vogue . Check bottom of shoes to see if she had a name . they did characters like Hansel and Gretel and that name was on bottom of shoe sole . Good luck on your search :-) I adore Ginny's and have several I have sold all my toddles but kept the hard Plastic ones . They are to cute to sell

Thank you for the extra info! I just checked her shoe soles and there isn't a name printed on them. You're probably right in that she doesn't have an official name then... Even if I could just see the boy version, I think that would make my life a bit more complete. Although, I'm definitely used to dealing with more expensive dolls because of my Blythe hobby, so I might not hesitate to add the boy to my collection if I found him!

I can just imagine how fun it is to sell Ginnys and Toddles. :) I've been looking at your photos and you're incredibly lucky to have such a lovely collection! It's so extensive, full of helpful information that I've been learning from.

My mom used to buy and sell a lot of Ginnys back when she was dealing antique dolls. I wish she had kept her entire collection of dolls so I could see them now that I'm older and can appreciate them. For now, I rely on my grandma (also a doll dealer) for seeing big groups of beautiful dolls all at once.
