I received this old cast iron toy train from my grandmother as a parting gift. She said it belonged to her brother who played with it regularly. I believe it's cast-iron and it has some railway printed on the side of which i don't know. I would like to know if this is rare or valuable in any sense because my father says it was. PLEASE tell me i am very curious about this.

I've found two of them, one says it's made by Dent, the other says Grey Iron. I'm really not experienced enough with cast iron to say for sure, but suffice to say it is worth something. Both had that silver "no-paint" look to it, and with that in mind it appears it's in pretty nice shape. It's a wonder no one painted it, but you should be happy no one did.

Ionic was the name of the car in particular. There is also a "Doric" car that would go on the end. Both Ironic and Doric are styles of columns, which as an architectural guy, I thought was neat.

You won't be able to buy a new car, but I think family pieces have something special that doesn't necessarily translate to dollar value.

Ah yes. I was very curious about this but i would never think about selling it. it does have another car with "Doric" on it. thanks again for your input.
