Bought this hat last weekend. Never seen one like it and I can't find any info from the net. Does anyone know what it is and who makes it?

That's the German Bandmaster's Cap, made by George Duncan & Sons in the 1880s. It is collected by both toothpick and salt collectors. The original Duncan catalogs do not specify its purpose.
That's it! Thanks so very much Paul. Did it say how many colors it comes in? Was curious which might be more rare. I really like this one and might try to find the other colors available.
Welcome. It would be a good search to find all the colors available. This item is not the easiest to come by. I don't have the catalog page with me right now, and they may have only mentioned "assorted colors" or "made in colors" but Duncan's typical colors of this era are:
Amber, Sapphire (blue), Canary (vaseline), Old Gold (deep yellow, lighter than amber), and Crystal (clear). Some of their items were made in light green (collectors now call it "apple green"). Generally, "apple green" had the shortest production life, so would likely be most difficult to find (if the Bandmaster's cap was made in this color). Most popular colors of the 1880s to collectors would be in this order:
1) Canary and "apple green"
2) Sapphire
3) Old Gold
4) Amber and Crystal
Thanks again. I'm not that great in color. Would this be considered amber or Old Gold?
Looks like Old Gold to me
