This is long stem wooden base and rubber stem pipe. It has been handed down through the years in our family. It was from a great , great Uncle of mine and I am 50 years old. There is a stamp on the side of it that says " Round Top W D C French Briar". Does anyone have any information on this pipe? It's age and worth??

Pipesmagazine.com has an ask us section where you could probably get the best information. I was researching a Kaywoodie pipe for a friend and stumbled across your W.D.C. brand. (William Demuth Company). I believe that brand of pipe was carried in the Sears, Roebuck catalog.

I would love to know some info about this pipe too, since I have one. I bought it about ten years ago on Ebay; I believe I paid 75 dollars for it at the time and I know nothing about it. I smoke it, and I am always getting compliments because it is such an unusual pipe. If you found out anything about it, please post the info. Thanks and good luck

I've recently acquired a pipe very similar to this one. From my research, which includes reading tobacco trade journals which have been digitized, I'm thinking this pipe was made between 1900 and 1915 and was a precursor to WDC's very popular Wellington series. The clues are the "Solid Rubber" stamp on the stem and the early method or using a screw tenon to join the stem to the stummel, a holdover from the earlier meerschaum and amber component days.
