When my neighbor died, her family came and cleaned out her house and put the boxes of trash on the ground beside the dumpster as it was full. When I took out my trash I saw the boxes but this little green thing was plain to see and I couldn't believe that anyone would throw it away, so I rescued it! I have taken it to two antique dealers and one of them said it might be a snuff box and the other one didn't have any idea. It's made of metal, maybe brass, it looks like green paint on it, It is 4 " long, and 1" & 3/4 tall. The only marks are stamped on the bottom say (JB 1627) I was hoping that I would find out what it is before I die and someone throws it away again.
Maybe a coffee table cigarette holder? The angled inside would make retrieving 1 easy enough. Nice save, makes one wonder what was in the other boxes and bags.
Thank you for your opinion on this box!
I appreciate it so much! I kind of hoped I would get several opinions on the box, but I do like yours! I'll leave it up in hopes of future ideas about the maker and age of it. Thanks again!
Hi, I was wondering if you have found anything out about the box. I'm asking because i have one exactly identical to it. Just got it recently so I haven't had a chance to do much research on it.
Could be a desk box, maybe part of a set. Looks like cast iron from the pics but hard to tell.
Regards
Robin
Knifeguy,
Anyone I showed it to said it was probably brass . We scratched it a little on the bottom and it is that shing brass color. Thank you for your input!
collector821,
I'm excited to hear about your item! Could you post a picture of it? I have taken mine to "antique dealers" and they can't help me either. If I can find out any thing on it, it will be on this page.
