Don't know anything about buttons or these. we had a relatives in Revolutionary and civil war , 1812

The large silver button with the eagle is Imperial German, and likely a sergeant's collar button. I'm at work and will dig into my reference material once I get home, and try to get more info. The plain brass button could be German as well. Is there anything on the backs of these two? what's their diameter?
Aha! As I mentioned earlier, the silver eagle button is an Imperial German NCO collar button. What is VERY unusual about it is that the eagle on the button is the eagle of the German Empire. Common ones have the eagle of Prussia or the crest some other German state. That means this button is the type used on uniforms of Germans serving the empire overseas, like in the Schutztruppe in Africa. Here’s an example:

I should add that this button was a decoration worn on the collar to denote rank, and did not actually button anything together.
I will measure today and post asap take shot of the bottoms I have only 1 of the silver one. 3 of the large ones w/writing 2 of the same smaller ones which are here. 1 is show the bottom name. Only 1 of the plain one. 2 of gold one with the rock.
Also maybe 25 or more bags of button's from women who saved them for 145 years These bags have 5-10 button's of the same in each bags, some are really old we do not know what to do with them.

My wife's great grandmother had a friend in WW1 we have a letter from him to her, He was a Dr, a surgeon in the war stationed in Luxembourg 1919. I have posted this letter here,he wrote about the fighting. Maybe these came home from him, he was the towns school Dr before the war. She had children and a husband already, don't know why he sent letters Dear Bertha???
