I recently acquired one of my favorite Coca Cola litho signs. Copyright 1949, The Coca Cola Company. Form No. 1-99 or I-99 Litho in U.S.A.
I can visualize this in a 40's/50's diner or luncheonette!

Thank you rocker-sd and bratjdd.
Thanks for the info TGBWC; were the repro lithos dated 1949 as well? There seems to be a lot of age. The cardboard is a yellowish color throughout, it appears to have some aging on it and is discolored in spots (not water) on the front and back. It looks like it has been used. Also, the feel of the paper makes me confident it is original.
This is my opinion:
I can see from the glare the printing is very heavy and that the coca cola white logo stands out in the glare. The "Litho in U.S.A." and "Copyright 1949 Coca-Cola Company" is strong and bold, signifying (sometimes) that this wasn't scanned or copied. The printing is very sharp (judging from the photos) and not cloudy, blurry, or discolored. My best guess is that this is an original, not a copy from the proceeding clues. But that's just my opinion, If I could see any closer, I could easily find out just seeing if this had offset printing or not.
Thanks cocacolakid97, I agree the colors are sharp, and again the feel of the paper is very different feel and a little thinner than cardboard stock. I wish I could describe it better. Even the "Reg U.S. Pat. Off." is crisp printing.
It's a cool piece jameryd. Coca-Cola and Hamburger Sandwiches... well, it just doesn't get any better than that!
Thanks Daddy_Nobucks!

Thank you junkmanjoe !
I seem to keep comeing back to this post. Lets see in 1949 I would have been 3 years old ,laughing. I missed out on that one ,But I do recall many years later of getting 10 WhiteCastle hamburgers for 1.00 and a coke for 10 cents lol.
Thanks Jon, although I was born much later than 1949, I can just imagine where this sign was displayed and what has happened in all of the years since! Better times indeed!
many thanks officialfuel!
Thank you spriteboy42!
I have the hamburger as well as the frankfurter sign. The date on both of them is 1951. What is the best way to tell if these signs are original?
Best guess is to post them and get an opinion from the group. To me, it is the overall look and clarity of the piece. Does it seem naturally aged or does the aging look forced? The feel of this piece and the steak sandwich sign are pretty much the same even though they are dated from different years. I have seen some reproductions recently, the color are clarity are all way off.
Thanks to packrat-place for stopping by!
