I picked this up in a garage sale box containing stone hand axes, bear tooth, mountain lion claws and other carved items. I do not know its origin nor its use. Can anyone help in identifying this wooden mask? thanks
Looks rather African, possibly south-east Asian, to me. Not sure that it was ever meant to be worn, as I don't see any holes along the back edges about eye level, where strings or thongs would have been tied to hold it on the wearer's head.
Bushrat is correct (as always)))) it was likely made fairly recently in the Philippines. Looks like a carver had a pic of a Haida mask to go by but the nose is typical Philippines. It's a wall hanger.
