This is a rare date on this item Oct 28 1862 just five days after the stamp was issued,It is a new find found by me this year and certified by the APS as the earliest 5 cent imperf used on Document,If not the EDU.I am writing a story about this item because of it's importance. According to the Boston Revenue Book some single imperfs only(not Multipals)could have been delivered with the perf ones. But according to the Boston book as of the date written(1899) none had been found up to date. That was not back dated. This one was found in a little city in Canada. The APS and everyone I have talked about The item was concerned about the delivery time,It being only 5 days after the stamp was sent out how could it reach this fare destination in time to be used.I during my research has found the stamps were sent by Express trains the could have delivered the stamps with only a delivery time of only 16 and a half hours, the stamp would have been in the town in plenty of time to be used. Also look at the notation on the left of the document written dark ink 2nd use.Written at the closing of the agreement 3 years later. Also look at the date issued and read the agreement The agreement was supposed to be paid just a short while later not years. The person the money was borrower of was a bank clerk and Mr Pool saw him every day in town. The stamp was placed on when the agreement was made,Then Mr Pool paid two years worth of interest on the next time he did business with the clerk .It was written in pencil and his name was closed out in pencil. And on the last year or 1865 the 2nd use was written on the the left side over the pencil amounts, and on the back it is written in the same dark ink as paid, and the name on the front is closed of in dark ink over the earlier pencil. With this information I have came to the conclusion that the stamp was indeed used on the date of Oct 28 1862 when issued. There are another thing as well, like a fold in the document and stamp that was made when the stamp was first used.Notice the fold in the stamp,You can tell it was folded when it was wet by the lack of the breaking in the stamp,If it had of been a dry fold the stamp would have almost been broken in half. Witch it is not.
With that my conclusion is This is defiantly a 5 cent EDU.And the only known so far.

GREAT find and interesting information on this particular stamp.

As a photograph collector, I have become interested in the revenue stamps that were required for photographs during the Civil War era.

Thanks for sharing the stamp and your knowledge.

      Scott
