I purchased this lamp in Germany between 1964 and 1967 in the Maintz Germany area. It was purchased in an antique store and was old at the time. From a German Collector of Wick Winder Knobs I learned It was manufactured by (Schuster & Baer) Shoemaker and Bear (Berlin) for Brendel and Loewig (Berlin). The distiller is for the first time documented in spring, 1889 Clearly it is an universal distiller Kosmos-Brenner (Brenner-Art = Runddochtbrenner). It originally had a 7 inch Student shade on it which was broken. The Base is Pewter, the bowl Ceramic and Brass and the burner brass. It is a Kosmos Style Burner and we use Kerosene it it when the power goes out. It puts out much more light than the standard flat wick lamps. I am very interested in knowing approximately when it was manufactured and its approximate value. It is not for sale.
