I found this large green female figure bottle at an estate sale this morning, and was wondering if it is anything special. It is a figure of a lady holding a vessel on top of her head. The bottle is 31 1/2 inches tall, over 2'7" tall. It weighs 6 lbs 2.4 oz. There is a little label someone put on the inside that says 'vintage 1973' (please see pics) What is left of the other label is : Net contents 1 gallon with a crest of a lion, and on the other side, it says : 12% by volume. Much of this label is missing. (please see pics) On the back, the label says: imported by Merchant Wine & Liquor Co. The label is too crinkled to read the rest, and I don't want to damage it if this is something special. There are no chips, cracks or anything (other than the damaged labels) Has anyone seen a bottle like this?
I would try the antics road show on line,or Cristies auction on line There is also Heritage auction as well, sometimes you can get them to tell you everything you need to know about the item for free. Good luck I hope this will help.
I think it is from Portugal,A wine bottle from the eighteen hundreds,Just a guess
I believe it is a knockoff, prob...1973 is correct.
I have the exact same bottle, complete with stopper. I found it in a curiousity shop about 30 years ago and paid $20 for it. The stopper is also made of green glass and is quite large, approximately 12cm. in diameter and 6cm. high. The labeling on my bottle was all but gone so i have no idea what its origins are but i would say that it is probably 20th century(1973) because the seal on the neck of the stopper is made of a semi transparent white plastic or nylon. Either way its a beautiful bottle. Enjoy.
It's a 20's Chianti bottle.Saw one for $700
I have the same bottle, full of chianti, in the original box. The box says 'From the gold medal award winning cellars of Mario Castellani. Pontedara Italy. Contents: One gallon of Italian Red Table Wine in an elegant long neck flask. Petrarca.' The label on the bottle says Petrarca Chianti. I have no idea what it is worth but someone is selling an empty bottle with no label ox box on craigslist for $95 and i saw one on ebay for $195
