This postcard sized photograph was taken by "Ye Colonial" out of Brooklyn New York and depicts a soldier sporting the 77th "Statue of Liberty" Infantry Division.
The 77th was manned with drafted men from New York City and surrounding areas. It was the first draft Division to make it to Europe during the Great War and was noted for its fighting at Chateau- Thierry, Meuse- Argonne and Oise- Aisne. The famous "Lost Battalion" came from this Division.
During its service the Division had about 10,000 casualties.
It was deactivated in APR 1919, after its return to the US.
This image was taken upon the soldiers return and clearly shows a well detailed Statue of Liberty applied to a background square patch. The collar insignia is Infantry crossed rifles and "A" Company along with a partial discernable regiment of "30_". I'll try and lighten it later-- if an "8" shows up, then this is likely a Lost Battalion member.
Reproduction of this image in any form is prohibit.

WW1 era images are gaining in popularity-- the unit patched ones are very desirable.

Very cool! Haven't seen one of these...Don't you wish they put the names on every picture so we could track the individuals? I always wonder...
Thanks AmberRose-- it would be nice if I had a name. Then I would know if he was in the Lost BN and what battles he served in. At least it is a patched image, so I can determine some of his information.

Thanks tlmbaran.
