This piece looks to be hand crocheted. It has small flat copper diamond shaped pieces that are folded over on the ends with the thread passing through the openings. It is about 6 feet long and two feet wide. It is real copper. It is quite old, maybe turn of the century? I am trying to figure out its age, or anything else about it. I've never seen anything quite like it. Thank you for your help!
Hi, this is an Assuit shawl from Egypt. They've been made since the 1890s, but were very popular with Western tourists and fashionistas in the 1920s. They are still made today, but the vintage shawls are highly sought after by collectors of vintage clothing. A Google search of "assuit shawl" will return more information.
