This miniature book is 3 " by 2 1/2" perfect condition written inside is Mary Eliza Putnam, June 9th, 1853
She married the Captain of the Seawitch Clipper ship in 1864 and traveled the world with him, one of the last clipper ships leaving Boston or New York every year. She lived from 1841-1921.
Her father was well know in Salem , he died and was buried at sea 1849.
In those day the last name could only be used by 1 person alive in the same family so here goes, her grandfather was wounded at the battle of Lexington . Was Nathan Putnam, Nathan's brother Perley Putnam died that day. Nathan then named one of his sons Perley who was to be an Army colonel in the war of 1812 in charge of a new company in Salem Ma. He battled the British in Maine, He had 8 children , 1 was named Perley but could not use this first name till his dad died so they named him Perley Zebulon Montgomery Pike Putnam, short version is Perley Z.M.P.Putnam. At this time the famous git out west who discovered Pikes Peak had this same name, funny. All 5 children were raised by there mother and Perley the grandfather and his brothers, they all went to private schools lived healthy lives, all 5 were born from 1841-1849.
