I found this recently in a local garage sale. It looks old, not sure if the globe was the original match to can, but what I'm interested in is the CN on the bottom. I understand that this type of lamp is sometimes refered to as a switchman lamp ( not sure if so?) but wondering if the CN on bottom relates to Canadian National Railroad and if it is real railroad memorabilia. Sometimes I see CNR on items and this time just CN. Wonder if its the real article. It does have the pink, orange coloring on the bottom that was consistent with CN colors. Would anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks.

Yes, you are correct. It is a Canadian National caboose or work car interior lamp fount. The Canadian National marked many items CN as well as CNR, CN Ry, CN Rwys. The tin fount you have fits inside a cast iron wall mounted holder. The glass shade may or may not be original, but it really doesn't matter as the value is not in the shade on caboose lamps like in hand lanterns.
