I found this mantle in an old shed from a piece of property we just purchased. You can see where someone started sanding the top and side probably to refinish I do not know what type of wood it is or even if it is old and just appears to be. Just hoping someone can give me some insight if I've really found something or if it's just a piece that would be cool placed over a fireplace.

Very nice! That was a great find. Any more "old sheds" on the property I can come look through? Thanks for sharing it!!

Can you tell by the pics what type of wood this might be? I have been trying to tell, however I am not good at identifying wood. Any idea if theres any value to this piece? I'm going to keep it, just wondering.

I'm thinkin maple? How old is the house?
    5. DDD4UK DDD4UK, 13 years ago
The house had been torn down sometime ago. There are no reminants left to give us a clue to how old it was.

Looks like it might be Pine boards with a Walnut type stain, they used three piece to make the top and sides so the wood is fairly new I'd say. You might want to carry it to your local lumber store to verify and remember I'm only looking at pictures but I do know woods.
