Update - based on comments, we are saying it's:
    pre - WWII
    made by Marklin of Germany

    Hi,

I just found this website while trying to learn about an antique pen, and thought it might be a good place to try to find some info on an old loco I've had for decades. I've had an HO layout for years, looked in train magazines, been to train shows, and been to many hobby shops. Over the years I have never been able to find any similar loco in any books or on websites.

My grandfather purchased it in England in the 1950's. There's a alcohol burner that sits under the boiler, two cylinders, and no name plate or company name. The boiler is brass. It would fit on rails about 1 1/2" wide (o - gauge?).

All I know is that it is a "live steam loco", commonly called a "dripper" for the water it might leak.

I would greatly appreciate an insight into this family heirloom.
    Thanks in advance.

Well jut based on the first photo I can tell you that it was made by Marklin. That "CM" in a shield is a logo they used on their early (pre-WWII) toys. Like you, unfortunately I cant find the exact model.

Glad I could help! Oh, I forgot to mention that Marklin is a German company. I'll make a recommendation that another member here at CW made, try this yahoo group that specializes in European trains. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Classic_European_Toy_Trains/?yguid=291264323

I'm going to join too, so I can take a look around. Good luck,
