I am new to collecting buttons and came across this one, which I think might be military. It's about 7/8 inches in diameter and has a movable loop shank. I can't tell if the front of the button is L L or I I or 11 (followed by a raised period or dot) The back says TW Wien Superfin.
Can anyone tell me the age or military unit this might be from or point me in the right direction? I thought it would be easy to find TW WIEN buttons by Googling but I haven't found this one and now I'm curious!
Pre-WWI ( about 1901) Austria/German Infantry battalion number Button. (11th Battalion) TW Wien Superfin= means it was made in Vienna, Austria and the quality is very high(Superfine). Made of brass, possibly gilt.
In both the Austrian and German armies, the company or battalion number was worn on the shoulder strap Button.
Hope this answers some of your questions!
