Josef Marcolin was invited to Sweden in 1954 to give new impulse to their glass industry. In 1961 he started his own atelier in Ronneby, Sweden - together with his brother Benito Marcolin. This enterprise continued until 1991 when he retired. His collection is now produced in Italy by ColleVilca.

    "The Credo of Josef Marcolin:

Genuine hand-sculptured art crystal = the result of love and sweat,
Raw material = fascinating molten crystal (1200° C)
Qualities: In the liquid state = glowing, flowing, living
In the solid state = man's copy of nature's most intricate piece of art - the diamond.
Since the dawn of Man, the human hand, nature's most elaborate instrument, has imposed its will upon the forms and forces of nature. Yet in no field has it been more successful in achieving and ever surpassing its desire to create beauty than in the field of shaping art crystal. The hand has learned to master and form the glowing, living matter through inspiration, muscular power, the sensitivity of the fingertips, with simple tools, all in the few seconds preceeding solidification. The hands have learned to give to the material a symbolic expression of its own life and motion, to be frozen there forever."

    I like furnace decorated glass.
The form is elegant and precise.
It came from the Salvo's five weeks ago

There is an interesting video of one of Marcolin's students creating a cat sculpture on youtube:

This yacht also comes in a two-toned coloured version.
It is signed on the bottom Marcolin Sweden B638.72.

Nice V! And just perfect for Sydney. Have you been sailing lately?

Hi Amber! The weather's been fine but the beer allowance doesn't go as far as yachts. Mind you the over 60's bus pass costs $2.50. That means bus, rail and ferry travel all day. On Monday I headed north and did the tat shops on the other side of the harbour. On the way back I called in at Manly Vinnies and then caught a ferry back past the Opera House and the Coat-Hanger to see one of the Costa cruise line afloat! It was the Costa Deliziosa and had on board lots of Italians!

So a ferry ride each week, but not yet the yachts.

So elegant, love it!! I realize that I have a mystery for you all. This reminds me of a glass sculpture (flower bowl?) my Grandma had. It is a frosted blue glass "Mucha/Erte", style lady figurine with bowl base and third round piece with holes to put flowers?? I am going to find it and post it, as it is a huge mystery, and always has been in my family. P.S.Yachts make me more queezy than beer, so 'll stay on shore and watch the boats go by, beer in hand!!! Allright, must find and post as your beautiful boat pigued my curiosity, and you are very knowledgeable!! Thank you for sharing and jogging my memory. Michelle

I am sorry to ask for your help, vetraio50, yet your knowledge is incontestable. I posted the Glass Figurine Bowl under "Mermaid Flower Bowl?" under Glass Art. Can you tell me if you have ever seen anything like it, it could be Avon for all I know, yet it is so beautifully sculpted. Once again, I'm sorry to ask of your time, yet you seem to get straight to the point!! Thank you, Michelle Amieux

I love the ferry system in Sydney. I used to go to Rushcutters Bay and volunteer on sailboats. Glad you have nice weather, super cold and snowy here in Chicago. Grab some much needed sun for me V!
