This type of cast iron kerosene lamps began being manufactured around 1875 and were produced for about 30 years. One that was signed by Bradley & Hubbard recently sold on eBay for $395.00. Look yours over for any markings, patent dates etc. I see these sell for anywhere from $150.00 to $500.00 depending on who made it and how ornate it is. Yours appears to be a little more ornate than the average. Nice lamp!
Do you have any idea if these were painted originally, or colors of. Also I had heard these were made to hang from the wall on a bracket, do you know if there is any validity to that. Thanks for your time and comment.
I have seen painted shades on some. but most are just like yours. This lamp is supposed to hang from the ceiling and can be adjusted by pulling down or pushing up. The support chains loop around pulleys and attached the crown shaped counter weight. Someone may have tied wire in the chain to lock it in place. It also would have a matching white glass smoke bell hanging from the loop or hook on the ceiling canopy. You can usually find replacements on Ebay. Take care of it.
