    Good morning everyone,
I happened to run across this photo/postcard over the weekend, so I thought I would post it in hopes of getting some info from my fellow members. I received this many, many years ago from my grandmother. The story was that this was a photo of my grandfather when he was in the army, ww1. I was told that it was made into a post card for a soldier to send home with his photo. I have seen other postcards like this. I was wondering if anyone else has had photos of relatives like this. It does look like other photos of my grandfather, so I believe that it is him.I was wondering if it was after boot camp, because of the lack of medals , rank etc. I was also wondering if there was any way to tell a unit he might have been in, or where the photo was taken. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking, ThriftyGypsy

AZO back real photo postcard (RPPC) that is certainly from the WW1 era.

These were very popular for soldiers and were done on/ near bases and in larger cities throughout the US.

The Patriotic Flag bunting and pennant make it an especially nice example.

His unit could possibly be determined by looking at his collar brass-- it will often have a regimental designation along with the branch. I cannot see it from your photos-- maybe you can add a blow up image?

Thanks for sharing for family gem!

Thank you so much Scottvez, I was hoping that you would see this post. I knew that you would be able to shed some light on this photo. I will try and get a closer look at the collar, but it has faded some and I have been unable to get a clear look at it, even with a magnifier. I can remember my grandfather talking about being in France, and it seems like he always mentioned walking and foxholes. I want to say it was an infantry unit. This was about 35 years ago, and my memory isnt what it used to be. I wish I had written it down when he told me his stories. I remember him talking about being a private. His name was Manchester Carroll, and he made it back in one piece. He farmed the rest of his life and passed away in the 70's. Thanks for all your help scottvezz, I really appreciate it. ThriftyGypsy

I looked at the third photo again and it looks like he MAY have crossed rifles in his collar insignia. That would mean infantry-- the best branch! Of course I am a little biased since I spent my years in the Army in the Infantry.

If you get a better blow up, let me know and I will be happy to look.
