I bought this piece at, what I can only describe as, the Grooviest shop on Magazine St. in New Orleans. I fell in love with it immediately, as I LOVE Jaguars, the animal, not the car!!, and bought it on the spot. The walls are 16 to 20 feet in New Orleans, so I had tons of room to display it. When my Haitian friends would visit, (I did a lot of translating for applications, etc. ) they would always be terrified of this outfit. The black native New Orleanians, the superstitious ones, weren't to fond of my costume either. One time I tried to put it on, but it is clearly meant for a small Indian, not a peasant stock body type, and I believe it was intended to be worn by Shamans, but I don't know, I'm a little superstitious myself, the Irish side. I was told this was rented for a Naomi Judd music video, don't know if that is true. What little I know is that the Oaxacan Jaguar Ceremony is an Indo-European descent, which baffles me, maybe the missionaries had had their effect, already? I assume in the Jaguar Ceremony they Honor the King of the Jungle and surely pray that the Jaguars have mercy and not eat them. Does anyone know anything about this Oaxacan Ritual costume, or the Ritual itself? Thank you to all those great minds out there, michelle
This is fantastic.
