My husband inherited this umbrella stand from his mother. His great-grandparents, James and Tennessee, were married in 1869. They built a home on the family plantation in western Tennessee near Tiptonville and needed furniture for their new home. James traveled to New York and purchased this umbrella stand and other pieces and carried them back to Tennessee in a covered wagon! My husband's grandmother had it in her home in Paradise, TX, and then it resided in Indianapolis with his parents for many years. We don't know who made the stand, but it does have a very interesting history.
The photo is of James and Tennessee (date unknown).
