    Does anyone know what the "clip"style on these earrings is called. The way they work is that the butterfly shaped piece rests in your ear and the wire goes under your lobe - no moving parts.

      Interesting piece. As a guy this stuff never interested me until we found we had to inventory an estate. Lots of old jewelery from days gone by we found in a 1940's hope chest. I am not sure but I think these came out after the screw back style. The design wasn't accepted because it was to easy for an earring to get lost. Possibly a plug in or latch back.

      Yes I knew these were from the 50s and I even found an ad for them, which I put in a "nice safe place".

      Thank you , Fine Lines, this is the ad I saw before. On closer inspection ,there is the name Wingback and patent number on one of the wires. Great info!
