I have this painting or pastel landscape that I believe is by artist William Chandler. The painting is signed and it looks like Chandler but I am uncertain.

Could anyone please help me out with some more information about this piece; age, period, artist, country of origin, value, medium, etc?

Thanks a bunch, all input is appreciated.

The frame says department store 1950's or early 60's

I am sorry I don't see 50's or 60's frame. My opinion would be 20's or 30's frame on a period pastel landscape. Appears to have a lot of foxing and rather poor condition.

the artwork you have IS a chandler....William Henry Chandler 1854 -feb. 26 1928. He was a prolific American pastel artist, his works reflected landscapes, winter landscapes, marine & seascapes such as you have, still life fruit and fowl. Born in New York city He was raised by deeply religious parents of the christian faith that influenced his entire life not only as an artist but as a great humanitarian. His styles were copied by many other artists of the time, and mass produced as prints and lithographs by such publishing houses as {Taber-prang, Hellden & weiner (NY) and joseph hoover (Philadelphia).I have bought and sold these types of (ORIGINAL) pastels by Chandler, and the marine sceens are a favorite of mine and seem to be a favorite of very many others collecting these great works of early art,and I would be guessing but I would estimate that pastel to sell for around $300.00-$500.00 I'm not an expert but that's just my experience with these types of pastels.A good way to identify an original authentic pastel is if the chalk has transfered from the paper to the glass,it's not good but it happens with time and if the paper divider between the art and the frame is not done right, you're frame could be original too,I can't tell in those photo's,but you have a chandler. In you're pictures I think I can see this transfer but that does'nt matter I have sold them just like that and people still loved them.(Hope this helps)
