The wellenoptisch (wave optic) based line of decors by Loetz are favorites of mine, because they present the glass as organic, suggesting motion, reminding us all of the molten state from which it came, while displaying artistry at the furnace by means of applied elements and/or surface iridescence in various colors.

Loetz Bohemian Glass, Band 2 (Musterschnitte) shows that form 1641 was indeed versatile and is found in several variations: Candia Silberiris Wellenoptisch without applied elements (of which this is an example), both long and short applications in dark green, both weiss (white) and gelb (yellow) Coppelia (see photo No. 3 for the candia silberiris next to an example of gelb Coppelia that I was fortunate enough to find about a year ago), and white Boule-Boule (ball shaped applications) - a beautiful, but terrifying treatment that looks so delicate, I would be afraid to touch such a piece!

The candia silberiris wellenoptisch version shown here came all the way from Switzerland.

Nice piece and great story about the shape variations. I have a Wellenoptisch JIP that is PN 1659. I wonder if Loetz produced several examples of this decor in a series of complimentary organic shapes. BTW, if you find an example of the Boule-Boule don't be afraid; the Boule-Boule are actually quite firmly attached!

      It took 5 years, Deb, but I finally found a Boule-Boule. :)
