This item was in a box I bought from an auction, but I can't find any info about it. It is either bone or ivory I think and I thought it as either some kind of tool for writing or needlework etc. Anyone seen one like it please? I love it because of the decoration and it is very tactile. Hope you can give me more info.

Thank you so much for the quick response. AR I have unscrewed the top and although you can rotate it and see through the holes they are mostly clear and others just a bit grainy so no surprise I am afraid. A friend also said she thought it was horn at the tip so thanks for that. Tall cakes you are thinking on the lines I was but don't know how it would have been used . Thanks again, I have anoher item I'm not sure about so watch this space please.

AR thanks again for the info, it definitely doesn't have any views through the holes so a stanhope is out, but maybe the fid is more likely. Have had a look at the link you sent me thank you.
