GmaWhiteHo…
(1 item)
I have had this button for a few years and I am not really very fond of it. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it. All I know is that the back is magnetic and the front is not. The red appears to have texture so it is not painted. One nice person has told me that she believes it is not a uniform button and I am glad for that. Anyway, here is my button and if anyone can tell me anything about it I would be most grateful. Thanks
The swastika (also called "fylfot") became a popular symbol of luck in the Western world in the early 20th century. The design inside the swastika and dot in the center has a distinctive Asian or Indian feel. Your friend is correct, this is not a German military Button.
It's from about 1901 to 1910-ish and the back is made of steel that has been "japanned"(painted with a heavy black lacquer). The red part of the Button appears to be pressed celluloid which is a type of early polymer plastic.
