I have a Haid & Neu, Excella sewing machine (serial No. 2986505)
I know it is German made and probably pre 1930’s
I am struggling to find any valuation and seem to be quite rare, as very few hits of the same/similar models on website searches and struggling to find any history.
I have seen three advertised over probably the last 12 months with prices from ~£100 to £1000 (although I guess the latter is mint and probably well overpriced.
It is not in the best condition (although in full working order). The veneer has come off the wooden base along one edge and is missing the brass receptor for the lock. The chrome wheel has slightly rusted and lost its shine. It comes with spare bobbins and tools (don't know if these were original and came with it?)
I was wondering if it is worth getting the veneer fixed and how much it would cost, or who could do it. Off course the price I am willing to pay depends on what the sewing machine is worth. I know the majority are not worth much, especially those that were massively produced.
Any help would be appreciated (fix it, sell it, skip it??) (as I am emigrating in a couple of months and must go)
or if you know anyone that could value at a reasonable cost. Most antique shops I have phoned are not interested.
Thanks!
They're not rare, it's just that they were given all sorts of different names, so it seems not many exist when you search for 'Excella'. Haid and Neu was a long standing company and the model that you have was exported all over the world. They are not terribly valuable, $100 +/- 50 would be a ballpark figure depending on where you live and how much someone wants it.
