My mother had one of these from when she was little. She always called him Cheetah, although I know it wasn't his name. Hope you find out what its called, I would love to know the info as well so I can track down a replacement for my mom. GOOD LUCK!

I'm sure I'm a bit late here, but, in case this could eventually help someone else out, I am going to reply - I think he might be Mr. Bim a monkey similar to Zippy the Monkey.
Mr. Bim was another popular 1950s - 1960s monkey. He came in 2 sizes. He holds a banana.

I just came across another one...argh!
      http://atlantaantiquegallery.com/i-9739531-bi-jou-monkey.html
1950's-60's monkey manufactured by the Bi-Jou company stands 20" tall and sports his original suspenders and wears his white vinyl baby shoes. Scratching his head for 50 years seems extreme, but he manages just fine. He is in great condition for his age. Bright colors on face and fur! =
