My 12 year old picked this oil can for $1 a few weeks ago and we finally got around to turning it into a Shell themed can this week. We finished pinstriping it this morning. He is happy with it. Turned out pretty cool I think, elbow grease, a little paint, couple of decals and some pinstriping.

jamie where did you get the decals from
    7. jamiedpt jamiedpt, 13 years ago
I got these through an eBay seller named "largemouthlodge" but there are several others who sell these sort of decals on eBay. I prefer the vinyl ones over waterslides. Frankly I was disappointed in the ones I got from largemouthlodge as they were not die cut, they look good but not being die cut is a pain. I realized after the fact that I never inquired about that. It makes it difficult to handcut each of these, and I purchased several different items from this dealer at the same time. Its my fault though for not asking ahead of time if they were die cut.

James has another small oil can that we will be doing in a mobile theme and we will post pics of it when we get it done.

What a great 'Father son project' for y'all to do while it's winter time ....Every time he sees it he will remember...

thanks to you all for the likes and loves and the great comments. Pop-abides I hope you are right. I do want him to remember things like this. Had wanted to find us a gas pump to work on this winter, but oil cans and gumball machines will have to do!

Kudos to you for inspiring a new generation to collect, restore and display. Getting them out of the house to garage sales and thrift stores and enjoying it. Yet still using the internet to research, find parts and display for others to enjoy. Thats what I call a balance.

I collected oil cans and bottles for years when I lived up North. I gotta love this. Your little one made a good buy. I still have a dozen or two out in the shop somewhere. Probably they will end up dump bait in the end.

If I find something I will part with it will be a donation for his cause. I seldom sell stuff I actively collect. Swap it or give it away. Miscellaneous items are a different story.

I poked around there in one shop today. Can't say I remember where everything is, however I did find an oil can the boy might like to clean up for his project. I will send you a picture and he can decide. I think it was originally used on singer sewing machines so that may give him an idea for a theme.
