I picked this up somewhere (?) about 35-40 years ago because I thought it was so beautiful. At that time the leather was completely intact but being stored in a box for the past 25+ years it's rather dryed out. It looks Victorian? A part of a desk set? My thoughts are that it's a late 1800's letter holder or maybe early 20th century? Any thoughts?

      Hi Kate

I would say you are spot on with the description as an old Victorian Letter Holder which has had a very prominent history. The front feature a family crest with the Rampant lion and other motif in the lower left of the front. The style is extremely elaborate and would have belonged to quite a wealthy family as this type of decoration was only reserved for very wealthy 19th century aristocracy
