I bought this trivet on ebay, but I'm at a loss to how to use it.
It has two little legs and a long spear one !
Thanks for the useful comments. I've uploaded a pic of the underneath, now.

Need more pictures but I can tell you it is NOT a trivet !
Well.................I only ever saw one being used and it sat on my grandmother's ironing board. When she took the comfort iron off the stove she sat it on one like this with an elevated foot. She used sad irons also.
This is an antique trivet that attached to a parlor stove or fireplace firebar rail by the two cleats at the edge. The third adjustable support kept it securely in position at a right angle. It would most commonly be used to keep a coffee or tea pot warm.
On eBay UK there is a Seller, chris1978black, who constantly finds and lists these interesting old trivets.

If the firebar attachment is not rusted on, it can be removed so that the trivet can be displayed on a wall.
