antique pickle jar made between 1860 or 1893 this was made in hartford ct by the hartford silver plate company there is a mark of a deer in the forest and quadra on the bottom it has the birds on the top with the birds claws on the tongs there is no chips or cracks on the blue glass the hartford silver plate company went out of buisness or sold in 1893 just wondering if this was worth putting insurance on
A quick google scan shows these to go for $ 400.00 - $ 500.00.
thanks for the reply i could not find one like this to figure out what it was worth i just think its a very nice piece of history thanks again lacrosss
This is purely 1880s. The insert is a pattern known as "Daisy and Button", but was originally called "Hobnail" and is a copy of a cut glass design called Russian. The pressed glass version was first produced in the mid-1880's and was made by many factories.
$400-$500 is a bit steep for one of these. That sounds more like an asking price than a selling price. Google "Daisy and Button pickle castor" and you'll see a lot of them. They are available, but desirable, especially if in excellent condition. Insurance replacement cost is always higher than fair market value,.
A nice one sold last July at a Jeffrey Evans auction for $149.50. Jeff owns and runs one of the largest (if not, THE largest) auction houses for EAPG:
