Anybody recognize this one?
Metronome de Maelzel, (Paris, Amerique, Belgigue, France, Hollande, Angleterre), by Seth Thomas. In our family since before 1955 (approx.). We know for sure it was in our family after 1947, however, that does not mean the Metronome was made after 1947. It may have been made before then.
We saw online a copy of a 1951 ad for this style metronome. Could be the same. Just don't know.
It works. Some crazing on wood finish, but overall, wood in good shape. Inside is in very good shape. We do not know if it is mahogany wood, or a mahogany stain over another type wood.
There is #909 at the bottom of the instruction sheet attached to the inside of the front panel/cover. Also, there is C1 (stamped/engraved) into the wood of the bottom of the metronome.
thank you emersonestates for the love shared.
So glad you like/love it, Bellin68. Ralph did a great job checking it out and taking pics. Afterwards, we both enjoyed hearing its http://www.metronomes.net/qm2a.wav
No problem. Not sure why they added it to clocks, but there ya go ! Believe it also is listed in Music, show and tell area.
So what is the mystery?
What era/decade does it come from? So far, have not figured that out. Trying to find out more history. Just know it was approx. before 1955. Thanks.
Beautiful condition! I have one posted as well from the same company, not as nice condition, and a lighter wood, or wood stain. Now I just need a grand piano to put it on!!
Isn't it a fun item?! We sold ours about 4 months ago. Down sizing. You enjoy yours and thanks for writing.
I suspect it's earlier than 1950. Why do you say it's Seth Thomas? Is there a marking? I'm new to these but I've been trying to learn. Maelzel made it in 1815. Then Seth Thomas and Paquet made it just before 1900. Usually they are marked. This one appears to only have Maelzel. Have you sold this? I like it. I'm a musician.
Oh perhaps the made in USA gives away Seth Thomas? I just noticed that. Still could be a little earlier.
