I inherited this statue several years ago. I was told it was of a buddhist monk and came from either Japan or China in the mid 1800's. I have yet to find another like it and am at a quandry as to what it really is and if there is any value to it. There was some bad repair work done on the eyes at some point and it needs to be professionally cleaned. I really like the statue and have it in a case with glass doors to keep it somewhat clean. The raised relief of the musculature and veins on the arms and legs is a nice touch as is the expression on the face. The bells are painted with fruit and birds. The piece is about 21 inches by about 12 inches all told. The staue is carved from wood and the crook and bells are metal.
is it metal ?
if it is, i think it may be worth a lot
