    Lost in Spaaaccccceeeee!! : )

Here is an interesting item that it seems some of you may enjoy. The item is a gyro powered Louis Marx toy from the early 1960's. It includes a bunch of space aliens and astronauts. You wind it up with the crank on the bottom and it gyrates back and forth, around, as well as up and down when on its base after having been wound up. It seems to have everything except for one or two pieces.

Have a blessed upcoming weekend everyone! Gotta hop.... : )

My search for "gyro space saucer" brought me here. This was my favorite toy when I was maybe 10 in 1961. I distinctly remember the incredible sounds it made when I used all my strength to wind it, and the way the gyro forces resisted my efforts to change the axis of it's rotation. But, it was only when I saw these pictures that I remembered all the accessories that came with it, especially the rocket launcher and the clear canopy that covered the pilot's compartment. They don't seem to allow pictures to be posted as a comment, so I've used a picture that I found of me when I got it in the 60's as my profile pic. I do not know why I'm wearing a tie. Thanks Electo for posting this. This made a 69-year old guy's day.

I got one in the mid 60's for Christmas (and still have it). Here is a simple diagram showing how when it spins on one axis and you try to rotate it on another, it tries to rotate and resist on the 3rd axis. This is shown perfectly by its green/orange holder. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Gyroscope_wheel-text.png
