I was wondering if anyone knew what this covered wood bowl is called and what its use was for. Also does anyone know any information about it, age, value, origin, etc.
Thanks a bunch. The bowl is small and is about 5" in diameter.
You have what is refered to as Treen Ware. They were used to store sugar ect. and made usually from a burr on a tree. The burr is usually where a limb has been removed and healed over. The burr is harder and makes a bowl that lasts. I have one similar to yours. I don't know value and as to age they are being reproduced
I'm pretty sure it's a soap bowl that Old Spice solid shaving soap came in. Give it a sniff, see if it still smells like old spice ;-))
Old turned boxes change to oval over years.
