This was my great-grandmother's mirror that she used to have hanging in her bedroom at the old farm house.

I used to love seeing this mirror when I went to her house because I thought how funny I looked. Being young, I didn't know the difference between "new" mirrors and one like grandma's that was a silver mirror.

There is very little damage to the silver itself. Most of the wear and tear is the back of the mirror. I believe it's a leather backing but it's so delicate I'm afraid to touch it much. I keep it wrapped in white tissue paper to protect it.

I seem to remember that it is really a two tone color metal. But I'm not sure anymore and there is so much patina on it that you almost can't even tell it has the bronze color to it.

A family member just told me recently, and I can't vouch the virility of this information, that this mirror actually given to my gg grandmother on the birth of my g grandmother. That would put the date of this mirror at 1899 if it was supposedly bought the year she was born, or on up. Depending on when it could have been manufactured. I have no idea so I just have to go with family lore for now until I find out different.

Hope you enjoyed seeing it as much as I do.

What a treasure! It certainly looks like it could be from 1899 or earlier.

Lovely. It is a quality piece even without the family history. The patina is wonderful. Do make sure that if you are keeping this wrapped in paper that it is acid free, otherwise you might hasten the deterioration of the backing.

This isn't related to the image but more towards the comment about the Paradise fruit cake tin you made. I know it was 9 years ago and I'm not sure if you're account is even active, but I thought it was kinda of a coincidence that my dad brought home a tin like that full of buttons from when he was helping is friend out with something. ????????????

Did anyone else get an "Addams Family" flashback from the first image?
