I know what this is. It says so on the box. All that I have seen online have little red lines underneath, like gills. This one is just red. I would like to know why it is differently painted. Was it just another way that they presented them? And as long as we are at it, can anyone help me date this lure and box? Thanks for any help. Mark G.

You showed everything but what is needed. These are common lures and can be researched by the Heddon Dowagiac series or model number.

Have a look around here: http://www.oldfishinglure.com/heddonlurenumbers.htm

Your lure should be very easy to research if you give it a shot. There are hundreds of sites special for fishing lures. Yours is in good shape and having the box is an added extra if it is the original box for this lure.

Thanks for the comment, but my question was; why is the bottom painted red and not the lines like one always sees on the #100 lure. It is a minnow, isn't it? You said that I showed everything but what is needed. What should I be showing that isn't seen here? Thanks for all the help......

markg: I am not a expert just a old fisherman-it seemed to me your lure was called "a wounded minnow"-don't mnow if that will help you out or not.My guess on the age would be late 1940s-nice lure and packaging-thanks for sharing with us.

mark it just helps date the minnow. as you could imagine back in the day they did everything by hand. as you have seen some have red slashes which are considered gill marks and were done painstakingly by hand. then somebody at heddon decided to shave off a few minutes in the production and give it one squirt with an airbrush and viola. we call it a blush chin. 513-310-8571
