I got this from and old friend that has passed. It still works great, and is in my living room, as I write this. Most of the 24 kt. gold plating is gone from wear, but it still looks great to me. And I've always been mystified by the way it works.

Those are really nice. I have one also. The hour hand is fixed in place, the glass is on a track inside the ring and is driven by a gear ring at the 6 o'clock position in the base of the clock. The glass rotates to advance the hands. They sometimes slow down after years of dust and dirt get into the track and it has to be cleaned out and lightly lubed.

I'm sure you will find this information accurate. The counter weight on the back of the hands is just that. Put a pencil mark on the glass....it is driven by a ring and gear assembly ....the mark will move as the time changes. Sorry it's not magnetic though. Google the title and author above for a complete break down of the clock. Best regards, Tony.
