    I picked this up in the thrift store. It is my favorite past time. Treasure hunting.......nothing else like it! Any way, I really have not been able to find out anything on this one. There are initials in the design and i think it says 1887 but can not be sure.

      Hi! I think you will find that the maker is Merkelbach. They produced steins from 1845 to 2007. The use of Western Germany narrows it down considerably to the years between 1945 and the Fall of the Wall in1989.
      Nice stein in the 'Historismus' style and has the "Kölnisch braun" (Cologne brown) glaze and pewter attachments made in the town of Höhr-Grenzhausen....

      Correct on this being Merkelbach. This stein was made mid 40's in exact replication of a series of originals in a museum in Germany. I think there are 42 in total...I have #30
