I am a sucker for any type of unique wooden pieces, since my father is a carpenter. I recently found this beautiful armoir style piece (fell in love with it when I saw it) at a swap meet in Florida. The lady I purchased it from, nor I, have any idea what it is or how old it is. She said she thought it was made in the 50's. It stands 16" high, is 22" wide and is 9 1/2" deep. It is solid wood and very heavy to be such a small piece. The doors in the front open up to reveal three small drawers with lovely carvings across the front. The legs are also hand carved. The pictures really do not do it justice!! I have been researching salesman samples and vintage jewelry boxes, but so far have come up with nothing. I have not found company markings of any kind on it, but I would love to know where it came from and exactly how old it is. If anyone knows, or has an idea, please let me know.. Thank you!

The picture is difficult to see but the carpenter in your family should be able to help if he does any type of finish or even restoration work. We can't see the joinery used in the construction so let him have a look. Also have him look at the hinges, they may be your best source for a date. Are they hand hammered? Loose pin or fixed pin? How many and what kind of screws are holding the hinges? Are there glue blocks under the drawers? If so then the glue that wasn't cleaned off may be of help to date it. The finish on it looks like a late 1980's or early 1990's wal-mart antique-it kit.
