Who can help? This is an old brooch from some kind of metal (not magnetic so no iron, it looks like copper). White lacquered and it looks very nice, like lace. I studied the book:
How to be a Jewelry Detective by C. Jeanenne Bell
She indicates this kind of safety pin was patented in the mid 1800's. In Europe she found this type of catch on European pieces as early as 1896. I believe this brooch is indeed European. This brooch has only little value but I think it very nice. Who can tell there maybe some more of?
Thank you lsjewels and stefdesign for the love!
Thanks also for your interest wolcott1 and KatsMeowVintage!
Its enameled brass that was made to look like lace. I can't remember what its called at the moment. It is from the Victorian era though. I just looked up that book "How to be a Jewelry Detective," and I'm thinking of purchasing it. Does it have good information?
I have this book and in lot of cases it give an anwer on questions as: is the material real. How can you do some proofs te get an anwer. How to get some idea of the origin and date and so on. i can advise it, it gives a lot of anwers. But the most questions and answers are about antique fine jewelry, not costume jewelry.
