I love this mainly because where it came from. I helped an elderly lady out several times and refused any payment, she lived in a mansion (and I do mean mansion in Norman, Oklahoma, many years ago and she mailed this to me out of the blue. I know she went to England and Italy a lot to purchase items and I believe it to be from Italy.
I love it, but I really would like to know more about it. I have researched Cameo plaques several different ways. Anyone have any ideas?

These appear to be plaster casts, once known as sulphers, that were made of the great engraved gems (intaglios) in European & British collections from the later 18th through the 19th century. They were wildly collectible, with some people owning hundreds, keeping them in purpose built cabinets or displaying them in shadow boxes like this.

If you would like to learn more about pieces like these, doing a bit of Internet research on James Tassie will get you started.

Hope knowing more deepens your enjoyment of this gift.
