These Bottles are historical and are from the V. Sattui Wine Co. Pictured here are a collection of Antique Demijohn Carboys from the San Francisco winery, Circa 1900. A very rare and collectible piece of Wine history in the San Francisco, Sonoma & Napa Valleys. V. Sattui use to buy Grapes in St. Helena, cart them for miles by horse to the ferry docks and take them by boat to his winery in San Francisco to make wine from what he called "some of the best grapes in the world". these bottles are vintage and charming filled with History and Tradition. The V.Sattui Wine Co. used Demijohn Carboys to deliver their spirits all over San Francisco since around late 1880's. - 1920 pre prohibition. These little bottles ranges in size from noble 1/2 gallon up to a monstrous 22 gallons and were made in old Italian glass, a beautiful hand blown green glass sometimes initialed by the makers on the neck or bottom, usually with a few glass blowing welds and then set inside an ever lasting, ever protecting hand woven wicker handled basket. They were Ideal for transportation on unfriendly bumpy roads..... and when the horse was running a bit rough. They are Perfectly preserved and intact except for the corks which are sans. The Only tag which identifies the makers is still attached to the collection. A lot of the originals strings are still there but the tags missing. Most made in San Francisco by one of the oldest glass makers and some likely made in Italy pre 1900's and brought over here with Vittorio Sattui and his brother rich olive green color.
The glass wine jugs are entirely encased in its woven wicker basket coverings. The woven wicker goes all the way up to the mouths of the jugs and most have rounded handles at the sides.
