Two of my favorites, from an estate sale several years ago...very interesting french dolls.. I don't know if that is a monkey face, dog face? .. if anyone knows anything about these two, please do tell... :)
I think doll is a bear face and maybe danish ? by her name .Love them both !!
Is the tag on male complete if you turn it ? so you can tell me what it says Original PA ---? anything after that
I just discovered that the male doll is made by Bernard Ravca. The tag is torn in half but I now know it say Originial Ravca, Paris, France... Here is some history that makes this old man even more endearing:
"Bernard Ravca made his dolls in France in the 1930's and displayed his dolls at the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. He went into exile after France fell under the Nazi opression. He spent the next several years raising funds for the war relief and the orphans of the resistance movement. Ravca's entire family was lost, his studio pillaged, and his accounts seized. He became a US citizen in 1947 and started over again. So much of the sadness of his life is indicated in his workmanship of the dolls. His dolls are full of life-like features with detailed expression."
I continue on my quest of researching ms. bear face.. thank you for the suggestion!
After several hours of research, I still cannot find the bear face doll..
I was thinking it may be Wolf in Red Riding Hoods clothing?
The head of this doll is Porcelain or Bisque. I'm not sure Jrene is the name of the doll... may be mfg since a size is also printed on the same label.
Ok, well I found Steiff Hedgehog dolls on this site and my doll with the dress has the same kind of face. So I think she is a Hedgehog doll, but she does not have hair like the Steiff hedgehog dolls. So I don't know if she is a Steiff or some other brand? I will continue to research, hopefully someone knows something?
Another possibility although remote; She may be Mrs. Tiggywinkles from Beatrix Potter. I was not able to find her under that search as well. ]
Your bear Mask face doll is not a steiff toy . It is hard to tell what face is made of without holding her . I can't tell if it is light weight composition or hard plastic by photo . Have you looked under her clothes along seams of her body for a tag that says who made her ? It is possible she is homemade as they did sell faces like this called mask face and you could make your own doll. Her arms are done rather primatively so she was never a high quaility doll as arms would not have been fashioned with just a string around wrist .
Well thank you for trying again... Her head is absolutely not plastic, when I tap on it, sounds like your tapping on a genuine hummel figurine. It is definitely of the breakable type so I'm very careful with her.
I really think it is the face of a hedgehog because I compared it to several other hedgehog dolls and faces I found on the internet.
I found no tage of any kind except the sticker on the dress that is pictured in the photo above.
Her body is sewn together with stitches on a machine because they are perfectly even. She is stuffed with the same type of excelsior that the Ravca doll is stuffed with, and they did come as a pair.
You could be right, that she is homemade and that's why I can't find any info on her... and so the mystery may be a mystery forever?
I do appreciate your help.. thank you :)
