Last of the eBay lot I acquired.
These real picture postcards are marked POST CARD on the back and were likely taken before he the soldier went “over there.” The soldier is the same fellow featured in two motorcycle photos in my previous post.
In the first photo, he has his shirt collar pulled out over the stand-up collar on his 1917 uniform jacket. At first I thought this was a stand-and-fall collar (Those went out in 1912) but a comparison with the next photo proves otherwise.
Picture 2 is the same soldier with a relative that does not look nearly as happy. Here he has his collar disks on his shirt collar, the branch insignia almost at the edge of the collar, just like in the previous photo. He’s wearing the standard service shirt of the period, which actually was a pull-over style with a fly that only went part way down.
Photo 3 features two ladies against the same background as the previous photo. Love the very light colored shoes on the one on the right.
Photo 4 has no obvious connection to the others, but was in the lot, and is easily the most adorable. Love the Dutch boy haircut, the hat, and the number 1 Fire Department (?) shirt. It’s marked Sullivan Bros. of Hudson N.Y.
Thanks for the love ttomtucker, Scott, Kevin, Manikin and bratjdd.
Thanks for the love, hunter
